IN SARDINIA
WORLD-CLASS SPORTS DANCE.
WDSF WORLD DANCING LEAGUE
SARDINIA CHALLENGE
IN CAGLIARI FROM NOVEMBER 22 TO 24.
From Friday, November 22 to Sunday, November 24, the WDSF World Dancing League returns to the Palazzo dello Sport in Cagliari, an exciting competition format featuring the best couples in the world of Latin American and Standard dances.
Cagliari, September XX, 2024 – Once again, it’s time for world-class sports dance in Sardinia. The top dancers from the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) ranking, the Olympic federation governing international sports dance, will gather in Cagliari at the end of November to take on the new challenge of the WDSF World Dancing League. This direct knockout competition will be the highlight of a packed weekend of events at the PalaPirastu.
The top 16 couples from the world ranking in both Standard (the five classic dances: Waltz, Slow Fox, Tango, Viennese Waltz, and Quickstep) and Latin (the five Latin American dances: Samba, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive) will compete in two thrilling days of competition on the Cagliari dance floor. Divided into 4 groups of 4 couples for each discipline, the top two from each group will advance to the finals, leading to the grand final on Sunday evening, where they will compete for the Sardinia Challenge trophy for the second time, following last year’s success.
In 2023, couples from Moldova (Standard) and Germany (Latin) claimed the top spot on the podium, and all signs point to a fierce competition as they aim to defend their titles in 2024.
Adding to the program is a series of WDSF Open world competitions, which will bring hundreds of couples from over 20 countries to the Sardinian capital.
Entrance to the Palazzo dello Sport will be free for spectators throughout the weekend.
The event’s main sponsor is the Sardinia Regional Tourism Department, which once again acknowledges the international significance of this event, aiming to promote the region’s brand in a highly popular and globally followed segment. The event will be produced for television and broadcast on SKYSport, the “home of sports dance,” while Corriere dello Sport will provide special coverage both in print and online. These media partners will enhance the visibility of this event, which is part of the official international calendar of the WDSF and the Italian Federation of Musical Sports (FIDESM).
